Inka Magnaye is speaking up for artists after her mother lost a voice-over job to artificial intelligence (AI). The popular voice talent and content creator shared the news on Facebook on October 8. Her mother, veteran voice artist Lindy Pellicer, had told the family that a client chose AI instead of hiring her. Since then, the post has sparked a bigger conversation online. In fact, many Filipino creatives are now asking what AI means for their own work. Here’s what she said.

What Happened

In a message to the family, Pellicer said she had “just lost a voice over job to AI.” Magnaye then shared a screenshot of that message on Facebook. Her brother, Renzo, tried to comfort their mom by saying it might simply be a budget issue. Still, Pellicer called it a sad and frustrating day, since she had worked with that client for many years.

What Inka Magnaye Said About AI

Magnaye said her heart breaks for all artists and creatives. She also questioned big brands that choose AI to save money. In her view, AI can be a useful tool, but it should never replace human talent.

On top of that, she said AI voice-overs, art and music feel lifeless because AI is not alive. As a result, she warned that audiences can tell the difference and may judge brands for it.

A Hopeful Ending

Instead of ending on a sad note, Magnaye turned the post into a job ad of sorts. She invited brands and companies to hire her mom, joking that Pellicer’s schedule had just freed up.

Inka Magnaye is a Filipino voice-over artist, podcaster and content creator. Many travellers know her as the calm voice behind Philippine Airlines’ safety videos. She also comes from a family of voice talents, since her mother has worked in the industry for years.
