Last Updated on July 8, 2026 by Over Here Toronto
The first MMFF 2026 entries are officially here, and the lineup already has some major names. Vice Ganda and Vic Sotto’s first movie together, The Greatest Showdown, is among the first four films confirmed for this year’s festival.
However, the comedy duo isn’t the only reason to pay attention. The first batch also includes a family drama, a fantasy film and a horror movie packed with familiar faces.
The First MMFF 2026 Entries Have Been Revealed

The Metro Manila Film Festival announced its first four official entries during a kickoff event at GH Mall in San Juan on July 7.
Here’s the first batch:
- 2nd Miracle in Cell No. 7
- Amir
- Haunted Carnival
- The Greatest Showdown
Together, the four films cover everything from comedy and fantasy to family drama and horror. So, there’s already a little something for everyone heading into the holiday movie season.
The Greatest Showdown

Vice Ganda and Vic Sotto are officially bringing their first movie together to MMFF 2026.
Directed by Jun Robles Lana, The Greatest Showdown marks the first big-screen team-up between two of Philippine comedy’s biggest stars. The project already made headlines when it was announced, and now it has officially secured a spot in the festival.
We’ve already covered everything we know about the movie, so consider this the update: it’s officially heading to MMFF.
2nd Miracle in Cell No. 7

Aga Muhlach is also returning to the festival with 2nd Miracle in Cell No. 7.
The family drama follows the 2019 Filipino adaptation of the hit Korean film Miracle in Cell No. 7. Nuel Naval will direct, while Mel Mendoza-Del Rosario wrote the screenplay.
If the title alone already has you preparing to cry in the cinema, fair enough.
Amir
Next up is Amir, a fantasy drama starring Dennis Trillo, Will Ashley, Glaiza de Castro and child actor Argus Aspiras.
Zig Dulay will direct the film, while National Artist Ricky Lee and Anj Atienza wrote the screenplay. The creative team previously worked on Green Bones, which won Best Picture at MMFF 2024.
So yes, expectations are already pretty high for this one.
Haunted Carnival

If horror is more your thing, Haunted Carnival is joining the lineup with a stacked ensemble cast.
The film stars Julia Barretto, Fyang Smith, Maricel Soriano, James Reid, John Arcilla, RK Bagatsing and Ronnie Alonte. Joey De Guzman will direct the Regal Entertainment entry.
The plot is still under wraps, but with that title and cast, it already sounds like one to watch.
Four More MMFF 2026 Movies Are Still Coming
The lineup isn’t complete yet.
Organizers will choose four more official entries from finished film submissions, bringing the final lineup to eight movies. The remaining titles are expected to be announced in October.
For now, though, this first batch gives us a pretty interesting mix to start with.
