Dennis Trillo Returns to the Big Screen in MMFF 2026 Film Amir
Last Updated on July 8, 2026 by Over Here Toronto
Dennis Trillo’s Amir is officially heading to cinemas this holiday season. The fantasy drama is one of the first four entries confirmed for the 2026 Metro Manila Film Festival.
However, there’s more to this one than its spot in the lineup. Amir marks Dennis Trillo’s big-screen return and reunites some of the creative team behind recent MMFF standouts Firefly and Green Bones.
Dennis Trillo’s Amir Is Heading to MMFF 2026
GMA Pictures officially revealed Amir as an MMFF 2026 entry during the festival’s kickoff event at GH Mall in San Juan City on July 7.
Young actor Argus Aspiras accepted the film’s plaque of participation alongside GMA Pictures Supervising Producer JC Rubio. The announcement also confirmed Dennis Trillo and Argus as the movie’s two leads.
Before the official reveal, GMA Pictures had already started teasing the project. A mysterious poster showed a young boy against a golden sunset, hinting that there might be something unusual about him.
Now, we finally have a better idea of what’s coming.
What Is Amir About?
Amir follows a young boy named Amir, played by Argus Aspiras, and his father, Ali, played by Dennis Trillo.
When darkness threatens their village, the two find themselves fighting to survive. Along the way, the story will explore their relationship, faith and the strength they find in family.
There also appears to be a supernatural side to the story. Early teasers suggest that Amir can see something others can’t, although GMA Pictures is keeping the exact details under wraps for now.
Dennis Trillo Is Making His Big-Screen Comeback
The movie marks Dennis Trillo’s return to the big screen, and he’s coming back with a pretty stacked creative team.
Zig Dulay will direct Amir after previously leading GMA Pictures’ Firefly and Green Bones. Both films became major MMFF titles, with Firefly winning Best Picture in 2023 and Green Bones taking the same award in 2024.
Basically, this team already knows its way around the festival.
The screenplay comes from National Artist Ricky Lee and Anj Atienza, based on a story by Ian Simbulan.
The Cast Includes More Familiar Faces
Dennis Trillo and Argus Aspiras will lead the film, but they’re not the only familiar names joining Amir.
Glaiza de Castro and Will Ashley are also part of the cast. For now, though, details about their characters haven’t been revealed.
That mystery seems to be part of the rollout. So far, GMA Pictures has shared just enough about the film’s world and supernatural elements to get people curious without giving away the whole story.
There’s Still Plenty We Don’t Know About Amir
Amir already has its MMFF spot, lead cast and creative team locked in. Still, several details remain under wraps.
We haven’t seen a full trailer yet, and the film’s supernatural storyline is still pretty mysterious. More cast details and character reveals could also arrive as the festival gets closer.
For now, Amir is shaping up to be one of the more intriguing titles in the MMFF 2026 lineup.
