Dimasalang Bridge in Sampaloc Reopens to Motorists on October 20
Last Updated on October 13, 2026 by Jaskaran Singh
Dimasalang Bridge in Sampaloc, Manila, will reopen its northbound lane to motorists on October 20, 2026. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has been repairing the 56-year-old bridge for about four months. The remaining work includes laying asphalt and installing railings. Also, the whole stretch should be passable before All Saints’ Day on November 1. That timing matters, since the bridge sits near the Manila North Cemetery, which draws huge crowds during Undas. Here is what drivers and commuters need to know.

When Dimasalang Bridge Reopens
- Northbound lane: Reopens on October 20, 2026
- Full bridge: Expected to be passable before November 1, 2026
- Location: Dimasalang Street, Sampaloc, Manila
- Closed since: May 23, 2026, for Phase II repairs
What Repairs Were Done
The DPWH split the rehabilitation into two phases. First, the southbound lane was repaired and reopened on January 17, 2026. Then the northbound lane closed in May for Phase II, which covered both the upper and lower parts of the bridge.
The bridge is part of Dimasalang Street, a major road between Sampaloc and Santa Cruz. It crosses over the Philippine National Railways tracks and runs below the NLEX Connector.
Why the Reopening Matters Before Undas
Dimasalang Bridge is a key route to the Manila North Cemetery. During Undas, thousands of families visit the cemetery within a few days. So a closed bridge would have meant heavy traffic in the area.
The DPWH said the bridge will open to vehicles even if minor work continues in some parts. Because of this, motorists should still drive carefully and watch for crews.
Tips for Motorists
- Follow the Manila City Government’s official pages for traffic advisories.
- Expect heavier traffic near the Manila North Cemetery in the days before November 1.
- Leave earlier than usual if you plan to visit the cemetery during Undas.
With Dimasalang Bridge back in service, getting around Sampaloc should be much easier before the long weekend.
