OldTown White Coffee Launches in the Philippines with New Flavors & Fresh Look
Malaysia’s beloved coffee brand, OldTown White Coffee, has officially launched in the Philippines with a flavorful debut and a cultural showcase. In partnership with San Miguel Super CoffeeMix Co., Inc., OldTown brings its iconic Ipoh white coffee and two new flavor innovations to Filipino homes—Salted Caramel and 30% Less Sugar.
A Cultural Coffee Legacy from Ipoh to Manila
OldTown White Coffee traces its roots back to 1930s Ipoh, where Hainanese immigrants introduced a smoother, creamier coffee style. By slow-roasting beans with margarine and blending in sugar, they created what became known as white coffee—a sweet, aromatic alternative to bitter Western brews.
Over time, these early coffee pioneers opened traditional kopitiams (coffee shops), which became hubs for socializing, storytelling, and community bonding. Today, that same heritage is finding a new home in Filipino households and supermarkets.
Four Flavors to Discover
At the heart of the Philippine launch are four 3-in-1 instant coffee blends:
- Classic White Coffee – Rich, creamy, and nostalgic. A direct taste of Ipoh’s traditional brew.
- Hazelnut Flavored White Coffee – Smooth and nutty, for those who enjoy extra depth and aroma.
- NEW: Salted Caramel Flavored White Coffee – A sweet-salty twist on the classic, designed to please Filipino palates.
- NEW: 30% Less Sugar White Coffee – The same rich taste, now lighter in sweetness for a more balanced cup.
All blends feature OldTown’s signature 3-bean mix of Arabica, Robusta, and Liberica beans, offering full-bodied flavor and a smooth finish.
“Back to Where It All Began” at Robinsons Magnolia
To mark the launch, OldTown hosted a five-day immersive event at Robinsons Magnolia called “Back to Where It All Began.” Guests were treated to:
- A VR cycling tour through Ipoh, showcasing the city’s coffee heritage.
- The White Coffee Tour Experience, simulating the streets of old Ipoh.
- A playful Tic-Tac-Toe coffee game, introducing visitors to OldTown’s bean blend.
Brewing Filipino Hospitality
According to Jazmin Leong, Country Sales Manager at JDE Philippines, the expansion is more than a business move. “Filipino kapihan culture and Malaysian kopitiams share the same roots—community, warmth, and coffee.” She added, “We want to celebrate that connection.”
Judah Ruiz, General Manager of San Miguel Super CoffeeMix Co., shared that OldTown is set to become a pantry staple for Filipino homes, especially in a market that values sweet, flavorful in-home coffee.
Already Brewing in Local Cafés
Beyond grocery shelves, OldTown White Coffee cafés have already made their mark in the Philippines. The first branch opened in 2023 at SM Grand Central, Caloocan, and now counts nine locations across Metro Manila, Laguna, and Bacolod.
With affordable instant packs and café-style experiences, OldTown brings the spirit of Ipoh’s coffee culture to a new generation of Filipino coffee drinkers.
