The Matcha Tokyo Opens Flagship Café in MOA with Ube Matcha, Zen Garden & New Menu

The Matcha Tokyo, Japan’s beloved modern tea brand, has officially opened its largest flagship store yet—right in the heart of SM Mall of Asia. With its zen rock garden centerpiece, exclusive food and drink items, and interactive tea-making experiences, the café offers more than just a caffeine fix. It delivers a full sensory escape rooted in Japanese tradition and Filipino flair.

A Matcha Bar That Feels Like a Retreat

Designed to reflect the natural curves of Manila Bay, the café’s interiors blend minimalist Japanese design with modern elements. At the center sits a karesansui, or traditional zen garden, surrounded by soft lighting, tall indoor trees, and flowing wooden lines. It’s a peaceful retreat that seats up to 60 guests and invites visitors to relax, linger, and connect.

Matcha Made for Filipino Tastes

This is no ordinary café menu. The flagship branch introduces exclusive fusion creations made just for the Philippine market:

  • Ube Matcha Latte (P280) – Earthy matcha meets sweet ube cream for a bold, local twist.
  • Warabi Mochi Latte (P280) – A rich matcha drink topped with Japanese mochi and kuromitsu syrup.
  • Steamed Bread and Butter Set (P380) – Served in a bamboo basket with sweet potato, matcha, and shoyu butters.
  • Mont Blanc Toast (P395) – Thick toast layered with matcha ice cream, chestnut cream, and edible gold leaf.

Also available are Strawberry Banana and Blueberry Mango Yogurt Bowls (P395) topped with matcha honey, and delightful desserts like the Ensaymatcha (P280)—a matcha take on the Filipino ensaymada.

Savory Options, Sweet Surprises

For those craving something hearty, The Matcha Tokyo offers Panini sandwiches in six flavors:

  • Chicken Teriyaki
  • Tuna
  • Vegetarian
  • Turkey Ham Avocado
  • Smoked Salmon
  • Pastrami

Prices range from P295 to P395.

Each pressed sandwich offers a savory balance to the store’s matcha-forward beverages and desserts.

Hands-On Tea Experiences

One of the most unique offerings at the new branch is the Interactive Matcha and Hojicha Experience (P595 each). Guests can whisk their own lattes using ceremonial-grade matcha or hojicha, and enjoy a dessert sampler with:

  • Cookie butter Basque cheesecake
  • Matcha madeleine
  • Warabi mochi
  • Butter cookie

It’s an immersive way to learn about Japanese tea rituals—while indulging in treats.

A Commitment to Craft and Sustainability

The Matcha Tokyo uses 100% ceremonial-grade matcha sourced directly from Japanese farmers. According to Anna Paw, partner-owner and CFO of Tasteless Food Group, the brand is committed to fair pay for farmers and preserving the integrity of the matcha supply chain amid growing global demand.

Since its Philippine debut in BGC in 2022, The Matcha Tokyo continues to grow its following by making matcha accessible, creative, and culturally relevant.
