Good Shepherd Café Opens in Baguio, Turning Beloved Pasalubong into Fresh Café Creations
A cherished Filipino favorite just found a new home — and it’s more than just a jar. Good Shepherd Café, located beside Baguio Cathedral, is now open, bringing the iconic Mountain Maid pasalubong flavors to the café table with a fresh, creative twist.
From Pasalubong to Plate
Opened on July 20, 2025, the café offers a reimagined take on Good Shepherd Convent’s legendary products, particularly the famous ube jam, which has long been a staple of any Baguio visit.
Instead of just taking home jars, visitors can now enjoy treats like:
- Ube Ensaymada Crème Brûlée
- Peanut Brittle Crunch Bread
- Ube Cinnamon Swirl
- Baguio Longganisa Bun
- Ube Crinkle Gelato (coming soon)
There are also drinks like the Shepherd’s Latte, made with cereal milk coffee and topped with Everything Nice’s ube flakes.
A Tribute to the Good Shepherd Legacy
While the café uses the Good Shepherd name, it is independently owned and operated by entrepreneur Robbie Pantaleon, with the blessing of the Sisters from the Good Shepherd Convent. The convent is not involved in its daily operations.
Pantaleon emphasizes that the café is a tribute — not a replacement.
“We encourage people to keep supporting the convent directly. Here, we offer the experience — pasalubong flavors served warm, freshly made, and enjoyed on-site,” he shared.
All Mountain Maid ingredients used in the café are purchased at standard retail prices, ensuring continued support for the convent’s community-driven advocacy.
More Than Ube: A Full Café Menu
Good Shepherd Café goes beyond desserts. The space also offers:
- Rice bowls
- Pastas
- Sandwiches and salads
- Specialty drinks
- Locally sourced ingredients including Benguet coffee and kiniing
Its menu, while still expanding, is grounded in tradition but served with innovation — perfect for both locals and tourists seeking comfort food with cultural roots.
A Space with Heart and Purpose
Housed in what was once a religious gift shop, the café retains a sense of history with a pasalubong corner for rosaries, tokens, and keepsakes.
Proceeds from the café also support economically challenged scholars, pediatric cancer patients, and other charitable causes — staying true to the Good Shepherd mission of community and compassion.
“I want people to feel like they belong here,” says Pantaleon. “Like they’re part of something bigger than just a coffee run.”
