You Can Now Live Your Maria Clara Dreams at This New Intramuros Filipiniana Rental Shop
Manila locals love a good weekend stroll through Intramuros. Now, you can elevate your historic walled city experience by dressing the part. Traje de Intramuros just opened inside Fort Santiago, and it lets you rent stunning traditional Filipino attire for your next heritage tour.

Wear Your Heritage
Events planner Archie Dema-ala conceptualized this immersive project alongside the La Manila Dance Ambassadors and Rondalla. He drew inspiration from the Hanbok rentals in South Korea and Kimono experiences in Japan. His team wants visitors to become part of Philippine history rather than just observing it from the sidelines.
The shop offers two main introductory packages:
- Binibini Package (P799 for locals / $25 for foreigners): Features a classic Traje de Mestiza or a Maria Clara-inspired dress.
- Ginoo Package (P499 for locals / $15 for foreigners): Includes a crisp Barong Tagalog ensemble.
How the Experience Works
Every rental package gives you two full hours to explore Fort Santiago and nearby heritage sites. The staff provides personal dressing assistance and secures your belongings in a dedicated locker. You just need to bring your own comfortable trousers and leather shoes if you choose the Ginoo package. Women can wear a sapatilya to complete the vintage look.
You can also customize your outfit with optional add-ons:
- Heritage Accessories (P50 to P200): Grab an abaniko, baston, payneta, or floral accents.
- Hair and Makeup (P1,500 to P3,500): Book a professional styling session by appointment.
- Guided Tours: Hire an accredited tour guide for a deeper historical dive.
Snap Your Photos the Right Way
You can freely snap casual photos for your Instagram feed around Fort Santiago. However, professional photoshoots, commercial productions, or large groups demand official permits.
You must secure these directly through the Intramuros Administration website to ensure responsible heritage preservation. Non-commercial shoots require a P6,000 base fee for up to 10 people.
Plan Your Visit
Traje de Intramuros operates out of La Events Cafe inside Fort Santiago. They open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Students, senior citizens, and PWDs score a sweet 20% discount upon presenting a valid ID.
The management highly encourages advance reservations through the official Traje de Intramuros Facebook page, especially if you plan to visit during a busy weekend.
