Bonifacio Global City (BGC), known for its towering skyscrapers and fast-paced corporate life, has welcomed a new restaurant that stands out from the usual dining scene. Sabai, the latest venture by the Franco-British duo Alex Offe and Michael J. Needham, aims to challenge perceptions of Thai food.

The restaurant offers authentic, soulful Thai dishes in a relaxed and comfortable setting. The name “Sabai” (สบาย) means “relaxed” in Thai, reflecting the restaurant’s philosophy: to serve food that’s both genuine and welcoming.

A Soft Opening Like No Other

Sabai kicked off its highly anticipated arrival with a soft opening on July 14, 2025. For those who wanted a sneak peek into its uncompromisingly authentic Thai menu, this was the perfect opportunity. Diners were treated to 25% off during the soft opening, with dinner service available from July 14–20, followed by both lunch and dinner from July 21–27.

Sabai’s new home is on the Ground Floor of Shangri-La at the Fort, BGC, and the restaurant is officially open to the public from July 21 onwards, running from 11:30 AM to 10:30 PM.

Sabai’s Mission: Authentic Thai Food, Done Right

Sabai is not just another Thai restaurant in Manila. The culinary team, led by Chef Assavadathkamjorn “Tob” Puwadol, brings Southern Thai influences straight from Thailand’s rich culinary heritage. Chef Tob’s journey includes stints at prestigious Michelin-starred restaurants such as Le Normandie and Sühring in Bangkok, bringing a refined yet deeply traditional approach to Thai cuisine. His philosophy is clear: no compromises when it comes to flavor, authenticity, and technique.

Through its carefully curated menu, Sabai gives guests an intimate, soulful experience—every dish tells a story, from Khao Kreab Cream Mun Pu (crispy rice pancake with crab fat salad) to Kang Panang Nuea Nong Lai (beef silver shank in Panang curry). The goal? To offer diners an unforgettable journey through Thailand’s regional flavors.

A Sneak Peek into Sabai’s Menu

Sabai’s menu brings traditional Thai flavors with a few surprises, designed to awaken even the most familiar palates. Here’s a quick look at what you can expect:

  • Khao Kreab Cream Mun Pu: A crispy rice pancake topped with rich, decadent crab fat salad, offering a satisfying contrast of textures.
  • Pla Kung Yang: Char-grilled tiger prawns with lemongrass, kaffir lime, and chili, bringing a bright, smoky flavor that tantalizes the taste buds.
  • Tom Sap Pla Khao: A comforting, spicy-sour grouper soup, a hearty experience with bold flavors.
  • Kang Panang Nuea Nong Lai: Stewed beef silver shank in rich Panang curry—a creamy, nutty dish with sweet and sour undertones.
  • Khai Look Khueay: Fried boiled eggs with tamarind sauce and crispy shallots—a comforting and addictively flavorful dish.
  • Kung Pad Prik Kluea: Stir-fried prawns with garlic, chili, and salt—a simple yet savory highlight for seafood lovers.
  • Ice Cream Khai Kang: Coconut ice cream topped with golden egg threads—sweet and refreshing with just a hint of indulgence.

The Atmosphere: Relaxed, Yet Upscale

While Sabai is nestled in one of BGC’s most prestigious addresses, it is far from the usual intimidating fine-dining experience. The restaurant’s interior design merges modern aesthetics with traditional Thai influences, featuring wooden textures, bright hues, and lush greenery.
