Johnoy Danao Turns His Metropolitan Theater Anniversary Concert Into a Live Album

Johnoy Danao has released his 25th anniversary concert as a new live album. Liwayway at Dapithapon (Live at the Metropolitan Theater Manila) arrived on September 12, 2026. The record brings songs from his two-night anniversary show to streaming listeners more than a year after the concerts took place.
Danao recorded the performances during his March 14 and 15, 2025 shows at the Metropolitan Theater in Manila. Those concerts marked 25 years of his work in music. They also served as his first major solo concert.
The new album gives fans another way to hear that milestone show. Instead of his usual guitar-led sets, the concert placed many of his songs beside a full band and orchestral parts.
The live album has seven tracks
The album runs for about 40 minutes and includes seven songs. minsan studio released the project. Music platform Qobuz lists Danao as the main artist, songwriter, and producer on the record.
The track list includes:

- “Buti Na Lang”
- “Bakuran”
- “Aking Mahal”
- “Right Time” featuring Clara Benin
- “Ikaw at Ako”
- “Ang Panata”
Several of these songs have long been part of Danao’s catalog. “Ikaw at Ako” and “Ang Panata,” for example, remain among his most played songs on Spotify. “Right Time,” his song with Clara Benin, also appears among his popular tracks.
The live versions sound different from the regular studio recordings. The concert team added strings, horns, drums, keys, and other parts to the songs.
Ria Villena-Osorio worked as conductor and producer on the live album. The credits also list a group of violin, viola, cello, horn, keyboard, drum, guitar, and backing vocal players.
Clara Benin joins Danao on “Right Time”
Clara Benin appears on the live recording of “Right Time.” She joined Danao during the March 14 concert at the Metropolitan Theater.
The two-night concert also brought in other guests. GABBA joined the first night, while guitarist Kakoy Legaspi appeared on March 15. Danao and Legaspi had worked together before as Johnoy and Kakoy.
However, not every guest performance from the concerts appears on the album.
The seven-song release keeps its focus on Danao’s own work and the larger arrangements used during the anniversary shows.
The concert marked 25 years of Danao’s music
When Danao announced Liwayway at Dapithapon in early 2025, the show marked 25 years since he began making music.
Before the Metropolitan Theater dates, he had often played smaller shows around the Philippines. The anniversary concert gave him a much larger setup.
A 15-piece orchestra joined the production, with Villena-Osorio handling the arrangements. The show also used a full band.
Before the concert, Danao told Rolling Stone Philippines that he saw the show as a way to thank people who had supported him.
“It’s more of a pasasalamat to people who really supported me through the years,” Danao said in the 2025 interview.
He also said the concert helped him introduce his music to younger listeners who may have found his work through social media.
That goal now continues through the live album.
Danao wanted the concert on streaming
The album also gives people who missed the Manila shows a chance to hear part of the program.
When he shared news of the release, Danao gave a simple reason for putting the recording online.
“minsan lang kami gumawa ng concert. dapat nasa spotify na rin,” he wrote, according to Billboard Philippines.
The comment means the team does not hold concerts like this often, so he wanted the recording available on Spotify too.
Danao had already released another live record before this project. His 2023 album Johnoy Danao Live collected 10 performances recorded at several smaller venues. That release included live takes of “Dapithapon,” “Right Time,” “Ang Panata,” and “Ikaw at Ako.”
The Metropolitan Theater album takes a different path. It comes from one major production and uses the arrangements made for his 25th anniversary shows.
The release follows new music from Danao
The live album comes months after Danao released “Kung Masusunod” with singer-songwriter Jan Roberts on April 24, 2026. Spotify lists both artists on the track.
Now, the September album looks back at an earlier point in his career rather than moving straight to a new studio project.
It keeps a record of the two Manila concerts and the larger group of musicians who joined him onstage.
