Yardstick’s New Makati Branch Has Kape’t Tinapay & Kakigori
If you are a coffee lover in Manila, you have a new spot to check out. The specialty coffee pioneers at Yardstick just opened a new branch on Aguirre Street in Legazpi Village. It is just a quick walk from their original Esteban café, but this new place has a whole different feel.
While the clean, minimalist look is familiar, the drinks menu is where things get really creative. This is Yardstick at its most playful.
A Menu That Travels Through Time
At this new outpost, the Yardstick team has split their menu into three “timelines”: the past, the present, and the future. The idea is that each drink tells a story, mixing old memories with new trends.
The “Past” lineup is all about nostalgia, giving classic Filipino experiences a fresh twist. A perfect example is the Kape’t Tinapay. It is a sweet, milky coffee with a cereal foam on top, served with a milk biscuit. It is a total throwback to dunking pan de sal in 3-in-1 coffee, just made for a specialty cafe.
Then there is the Caffe Oh Lay, Yardstick’s spin on a latte. Instead of plain milk, it has a structured foam infused with a bit of whisky—not for a buzz, just for the amazing aroma. They even have a Caffe Negroni that swaps the gin for a jasmine tea infused with juniper berries. You get all the floral bitterness of a negroni, just without the hangover.
Kakigori Makes a Cool Appearance
It is not just about coffee, either. Yardstick has added kakigori, or Japanese-style shaved ice, to the menu. Their take on it is far from traditional.
The Miso Caramel and Banana kakigori is basically a tribute to turon. It comes with banana milk, toasted milk pudding, and torched bananas. They also have a Roasted White Chocolate and Pistachio flavor. This one taps into that viral Dubai chocolate trend, mixing white chocolate drizzle with crispy knafeh and sea salt. It is a great sweet and salty combo.
A Love Letter to Specialty Coffee
This new branch really feels like Yardstick is having fun and giving itself permission to play. It is like a creative lab that mixes craft, nostalgia, and pure curiosity. It is the kind of place that reminds you why Yardstick became a Manila favorite in the first place. They clearly respect coffee, but they never stop pushing for what is next.
