Fundacion Sansó Combines Art, Coffee, and Scholarships to Support Filipino Talent

· · · · ·

Fundacion Sansó in San Juan City shows that a museum visit can do more than inspire—it can change lives. Since opening in 2014, it has supported aspiring artists with scholarships and grants. Now, its café helps fund the next generation of Filipino creatives with every sip.

A Museum with a Mission

The museum is dedicated to the works of the late master painter Juvenal Sansó, whose career spanned more than 70 years. Beyond preserving his art, Fundacion Sansó has made it its mission to nurture emerging talent. Since 2019, it has provided assistance to over 39 scholars from institutions like the University of the Philippines Diliman, Far Eastern University, and Bulacan State University.

Inside the museum, the Scholarship Café serves coffee made with Yardstick beans, pastries from Purple Yam, and a selection of merchandise. Part of the profit from every purchase supports the foundation’s scholarship programs.

Guests can enjoy their food and drinks in a bright, cozy space with a reading nook, gallery areas for young artists, and shelves of stylish goods featuring Sansó’s iconic works.

Expanding Support for Artists

The foundation’s aid goes beyond tuition. Depending on the school’s needs, it provides stipends, art materials, thesis funding, or full tuition coverage. It also offers grants for exhibitions, curatorial projects, and travel, ensuring that artists from all backgrounds have access to opportunities. The museum’s gallery is open to emerging talents who may not yet have commercial representation, as long as their work aligns with its vision.

Community and Cultural Impact

Fundacion Sansó’s programs have supported art therapy workshops, helped preserve artist estates, and generated millions in philanthropic work. One notable initiative raised ₱4 million through archival prints of Abdulmari Imao’s work, expanding fellowships into architecture and music.

The foundation continues to provide free public access to its exhibits and recently acquired land in Laguna for a future permanent home.

A Legacy That Keeps Giving

Juvenal Sansó quietly funded scholarships decades ago, a tradition the foundation carries on today. With the Scholarsip Café attracting coffee lovers and art enthusiasts alike, Fundacion Sansó is blending cultural preservation with sustainable support for the arts. Visitors can find it at 32 V. Cruz St., Brgy. Sta. Lucia, San Juan City—and know that their coffee habit is helping shape the future of Philippine art.
