Ube-Matcha Meetup Heads to SMDC Light Mall This October
Last Updated on October 5, 2026 by Over Here Toronto
The Ube-Matcha Meetup is heading to SMDC Light Mall in Mandaluyong from October 14 to 17, 2026, bringing four days of purple-and-green drinks, desserts, and other food finds.
The event puts two popular flavors in one food bazaar. Visitors can expect ube treats, matcha drinks, sweets, and other creations from participating food and beverage sellers.
The Light Mall stop follows the first leg at SMDC Fame Mall, which ran from September 24 to 27.
For café hoppers and dessert fans, the October run gives another chance to try several ube and matcha items in one place without moving from shop to shop across Metro Manila.
Ube and Matcha Share One Food Bazaar
The event centers on two very different flavors.
Ube has long been used in Filipino sweets. It appears in cakes, ice cream, pastries, halaya, and other desserts.
Matcha comes from finely ground green tea leaves and has become a common café drink across Metro Manila. It now appears in lattes, cookies, cakes, soft serve, and other menu items.
The Ube-Matcha Meetup puts both flavors side by side.
Organizers say participating merchants will serve familiar items along with newer takes on the two ingredients.
The exact merchant lineup has not yet been listed in the public event material reviewed for this article.
That means visitors looking for a certain café or dessert brand should check SMDC Light Mall’s latest posts closer to October 14.
The First Stop Was at Fame Mall
Before Light Mall, the Ube-Matcha Meetup held its first four-day leg at SMDC Fame Mall from September 24 to 27.
Both malls are in Mandaluyong.
The two-stop setup gives the event more than one audience in the city. Fame Mall serves the area around EDSA and Mayflower Street, while Light Mall sits farther south along EDSA near Boni.
The Light Mall dates also fall from Wednesday to Saturday, so visitors can drop by on a weekday or wait for the final Saturday.
SM summed up the idea behind the event in its announcement:
“Come for the flavors, stay for the community.”
The bazaar also includes lounge areas where visitors can sit with friends after buying food or drinks.
What Food Can Visitors Expect?
Organizers have not posted a full menu, but current event material points to several types of items.
Visitors can expect:
- Matcha drinks
- Ube drinks
- Cakes and pastries
- Cold desserts
- Sweet snacks
- Food using ube or matcha in new ways
Some sellers may focus on just one flavor. Others may combine both.
Ube-matcha drinks have already become common at some cafés, where the earthy taste of matcha is paired with the sweeter taste of purple yam.
The meetup gives sellers room to try other combinations as well.
Prices will depend on each merchant.
Visitors should also expect separate payments at the booths rather than one fixed event food package.
The Event Comes as Matcha and Ube Keep Growing in Manila
Both flavors have had a busy year in Metro Manila.
Matcha cafés and pop-ups have continued to open, while mall food events have put more attention on green tea drinks.
Ube has also received its own large food events.
In September, SM North EDSA held Ube Craze, which gathered 20 food and beverage brands around purple yam dishes and drinks.
The Ube-Matcha Meetup takes a different route by putting the Filipino ingredient beside matcha.
That pairing also reflects what is already happening on café menus.
Some Metro Manila shops now sell ube-matcha lattes and other drinks that layer purple yam with green tea.
The meetup takes that idea and builds a full bazaar around the two flavors.
Light Mall Is Easy to Reach by MRT
SMDC Light Mall is along EDSA corner Madison Street in Mandaluyong City.
The property sits near Boni MRT-3 Station, making it easier to reach for commuters coming from other parts of Metro Manila.
Light Mall itself is currently listed as operating from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
However, organizers have not yet published separate operating hours for the Ube-Matcha Meetup.
Visitors should not assume the food booths will follow every regular mall hour.
Check the latest Light Mall or SMDC event notice before going, mainly if you plan to arrive early or close to mall closing time.
Entry Details Have Not Been Fully Posted
Current event announcements confirm the dates and location but do not state a ticket price or registration process.
Because of that, visitors should wait for the mall’s final event advisory before assuming entry rules.
The same applies to the final booth list, food prices, and any special activities.
For now, these are the main confirmed details:
- Event: Ube-Matcha Meetup
- Dates: October 14 to 17, 2026
- Venue: SMDC Light Mall
- City: Mandaluyong
- Format: Food and lifestyle bazaar
- Main flavors: Ube and matcha
- Earlier stop: SMDC Fame Mall, September 24 to 27
A Mid-October Food Stop in Mandaluyong
The Ube-Matcha Meetup gives Mandaluyong food fans a short four-day window to try several purple and green treats in one mall.
People coming by MRT can also fit the event into a trip along EDSA without needing a long ride from the station.
Since the full seller list and event hours have not yet been posted, check the mall’s latest update before October 14. If you have a specific ube dessert or matcha drink in mind, waiting for the final merchant list can also help you plan what to try first.
