Want a Taste of Malaysia? A Two-Week Food Fest Just Opened at Makati Shangri-La

· · · ·

If you are looking for a new food trip, you are in luck. The Embassy of Malaysia in Manila just opened a two-week culinary showcase right here in the city. It is all happening at the Makati Shangri-La from November 5 to 16, 2025.

This event is part of the embassy’s push to promote “Visit Malaysia 2026” and to strengthen the friendship between our two countries.

Food is the “Language of Connection”

At the launch party, Malaysian Ambassador Dato’ Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino gathered media, diplomats, and tourism officials to share a meal. He described food as Malaysia’s “language of connection.” He explained that every dish tells a story about the nation’s mix of Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous cultures.

So, What Can You Eat?

This is the important part. The showcase features a menu of traditional and modern Malaysian specialties. These dishes are prepared by Chef Edwin of Makati Shangri-La and Chef Ammar from the Malaysian Embassy.

You can find all these dishes served daily at Circles Event Café inside the hotel. Some of the highlights you will not want to miss include:

  • Rojak Pasembur: A tangy salad with crispy fritters, vegetables, and a rich peanut sauce.
  • Nasi Minyak: A fragrant rice that is often served at celebrations.
  • Kerapu Asam Pedas: A spicy and sour grouper stew that sounds amazing.
  • Mee Kari: A classic and comforting coconut curry noodle soup.
  • Ais Kacang: That famous shaved-ice dessert piled high with beans, jellies, colorful syrups, and corn.

Good Food for a Good Reason

The embassy is hosting this event as part of its cultural diplomacy program. They are using food to build a stronger link with the Philippines. It is also a great way to get people excited about the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.

The ambassador pointed out that nearly 400,000 Filipinos visited Malaysia last year. That number is expected to grow, especially since Firefly Airlines has launched new direct routes.
