Moonstar88 Releases New Single ‘Ding Dong’

Moonstar88 has released “Ding Dong,” a new single about feeling left outside and unheard. The Filipino rock band released the track on September 18, 2026, under EMI Records Philippines, with Soupstar Music managing the group.
The song turns a small real-life problem into a story about rejection. Guitarist Herbert Hernandez came up with the idea after he got locked outside his own home on New Year’s Day. He had his key, but a chain lock inside the house kept the door shut.
That moment became the base of “Ding Dong.” The song looks at what it feels like to keep asking for attention when the other person will not let you in.

A Locked Door Became the Song’s Main Idea
Soupstar Music said Hernandez’s New Year’s Day problem gave the band the idea for the song. He was outside his house with a working key, but the chain inside still stopped him from entering.
Moonstar88 used that simple event as a way to talk about a harder feeling. In the song, the closed door stands for a person who will not listen or respond.
Lead singer Maysh Baay makes that point clear near the start when she sings:
“Papasukin mo naman ako / Kanina pa ako nandito.”
Billboard Philippines noted that the song keeps returning to the idea of a person waiting outside and asking to be heard.
The lyrics also mention having a key that no longer helps because another lock still blocks the way. The image gives the song a clear link to missed chances, rejection, and one-sided ties.
‘Ding Dong’ Takes a Slower Sound
The track also sounds different from Moonstar88’s earlier 2026 releases.
Billboard Philippines reports that “Ding Dong” uses a 3/4 time signature, a minor key, and a slower pace. The guitar introduces the rhythm before Baay’s vocals enter.
Those parts give the track a darker tone than “Kape Tayo,” which the band released in July.
“Kape Tayo” used coffee as a way to talk about sharing time with another person. “Ding Dong,” on the other hand, looks at what happens when that connection breaks down.
The new song also follows “Goma,” which came out on May 27.
The three songs are tied to Moonstar88’s next album and use everyday objects or events to tell larger stories. Billboard Philippines also notes that the releases follow a tarot-linked visual series.
Moonstar88 Continues Work on a New Album
“Ding Dong” is part of Moonstar88’s planned full-length album under EMI Records Philippines.
The band signed with the label on April 20, 2026, after spending a period releasing music through independent and distribution deals. Soupstar Music said the agreement includes a 13-track album, which will be Moonstar88’s largest album project to date.
The release plan started with “Goma” in May. “Kape Tayo” followed in July, and “Ding Dong” arrived in September.
Moonstar88 spoke about the album earlier in the year while sharing details about “Kape Tayo.”
Maysh Baay said that song was one she was proud to include in the new record.
“It’s a really beautiful song na proud ako.”
Her comment came during an August interview with GMA Playlist about the band’s return with new music.
Moonstar88 has not yet announced the full track list or final album release date in the sources checked for this article.
The Lyric Video Follows the Band’s 2026 Visual Style
Moonstar88 also released a lyric video for “Ding Dong.”
Like the videos for “Goma” and “Kape Tayo,” the clip shows artwork being drawn and colored. This gives the band’s recent singles a shared visual style as the album rollout continues.
The artwork also connects with the tarot theme used for Moonstar88’s recent releases. Each song gets its own image while staying part of the same wider series.
Moonstar88 Remains Active After More Than Two Decades
Moonstar88 formed in 1999 and became known for songs such as “Torete,” “Migraine,” and “Sulat.” The band has continued to record and perform through lineup changes and shifts in the Philippine music scene.
Current members listed in recent band material include Maysh Baay on vocals and guitar, Herbert Hernandez on lead guitar, and Bon Sundiang on drums. Some recent appearances have also included longtime collaborator and bassist Jazz Jorge.
The band also spent part of 2026 playing new material live. In July, Moonstar88 held a “Kape Tayo” café acoustic tour before playing at the Manila Coffee Festival at SM Megamall.
Now, “Ding Dong” adds another song to the album campaign.
For listeners, the main update is simple: the single is out now, its lyric video is online, and the next full Moonstar88 album is still on the way. The group has confirmed that “Ding Dong” will be part of that record, but it has not yet shared a final album date.
